Mouse, Bird and Sausage live in harmony on the Eastern side of the wall. Each contributes heartily to their daily tasks and so together the trio prosper greatly. One day whilst busy with her errands Bird is greeted by a stranger, who mocks her for her stupidity, claiming her lazy companions are making a fool of her by giving her the lion share of the grim chores. This ill-met herald promises her she shall prosper more greatly once she is in control.
Lured by this possibility Bird is unable to find it within herself to toil harmoniously any longer.
And so our tragedy unfolds.
What will bring us greater contentment and satisfaction: the harmonious toil of the collective, or the desires of the individual?
Inspired by one of the Grimm Brothers’ hidden treasures, The Mouse, The Bird and The Sausage inhabits early 1980’s Berlin, simultaneously channelling the music of Kraft Werk and Shostakovich in a heart-rending, absurd theatrical mash-up that fumbles in the dark to reveal the power and pitfalls of ego.
